There’s space at the root of all our problems and you are to blame.
code enforcement and police came to the gig at my house tonight. said they’ve been following our facebook events. their main concern was the safety / having too many people in a tiny space. they were really nice, offered to work with me on finding a place in town to do “legal” shows but we can’t do shows here anymore.
i’m working on moving all of our upcoming shows to other locations.

:(“we will exist when this house is gone”
Yesterday was an extremely sad day for us and the DIY music scene as we learned that The Handsome Woman—a DIY house venue in Willimantic, CT—was shutdown. If it were not for Derrick and the Handsome Woman, Deer Leap may not still be a band today. Derrick and the community at the Handsome Woman have made us feel that Connecticut is just as much our home as New Hampshire. It was the most supportive and welcoming place to play a show.
We consider ourselves fortunate to have played at the Handsome Woman so many times and with so many amazing bands. Anyone who has played or attended a show there will tell you how great their experience was.
While we understand that those in law enforcement must keep the public safe, and that there are realistic safety concerns about cramming a bunch of people into a confined space, it is still truly upsetting that these places that strive to support the DIY music scene are constantly shut down.
Please take advantage of any DIY space while they are putting on shows—go to shows, donate to the space and bands, support one another.
To Derrick and anyone and everyone who has ever played or gone to a show at The Handsome Woman, thank you for making it such an amazing place.

Deer Leap - Demo
Grab a copy of our 2010 Demo on cassette from Broke World Media at www.brokenworldmedia.bigcartel.com.
There is a previously unreleased demo of “Coffee and Keys” on the cassette.
His first guest was producer Ed Rose.
This is one of the best things ever. Matt Pryor talks with dudes like Chris Conley, Aaron Pillar, Ed Rose, and James Dewees.

We are very excited to announce that we will be releasing Deer Leap’s “Here. Home” as a vinyl LP early next year. This will be a split release with a new label from Boston called Small Time Records.

“Here. Home” is the debut LP for the New Hampshire post-rock tinged atmospheric emo trio. They won the internet’s heart with their amazing effort on a split LP with The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die in 2011. The bands draws influence from artists like The Appleseed Cast, Jimmy Eat World, and Mogwai. You can stream / download “Here. Home” on their bandcamp: http://deerleap.bandcamp.com/“… with its medley of superb indie and post-rock tendencies, Here. Home. proves Deer Leap can stand on their own, are on the top of their game, and are a band worth noticing that will surely surprise a lot of people in the near future.” Sputnik Music (4 out of 5)
“It’s hard to tell if Here. Home. is an album of tension being fully released or problems merely going unsolved, but either way, listening [to] the journey yields rewards. Deer Leap [is] one of the better, more gripping acts in a crowded field, and Here. Home. will hopefully gain them as much notice as they deserve.” Punk News (4 out of 5)“If you’re looking for an intense, emotional album to put on, sit back and contemplate to, this is for you. I can’t think of a band that better delivers the perfect mix of crushing instrumental work and clean, consistently powerful vocals.” Serious Tones (4 out of 5)- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -And because we just can’t wait to put out some Deer Leap jams, we decided to press some copies of their original demo from 2010 on cassettes. This release features a bonus demo version of the song “Coffee & Keys” from their 2011 split LP with The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die.
gregoryzero asked: Could you reupload Here. Home. to mediafire? The one you have linked everywhere was removed.
We’ve received a lot of messages about this and I haven’t been able to figure out the problem. Mediafire won’t let me upload a new file. If anyone has a working link to the album then please share with us and everyone else. Sorry about this. Hopefully we figure it out soon.
